Music Is My Way of Life Part 1

As many of you who know me know, I am an admitted audiophile. There's just something about music that I just can't get enough of. If asked what my favorite genre was, I couldn't say. I would say that I am a fan of GOOD music, which spans all genres. I am mainly a fan of old school soul music, much of which I attribute to the rap music of today (I'll explain later). I believe that music is a mainstay of human culture that will not die and for that, I'm immensely grateful. I'm sure I'm not in the minority when I say that music has helped me out of some trying times, while allowing me to celebrate victories. My music and I have a relationship that cherish deeply.

This relationship is one of the things that makes me glad I was reared in such a musical city. New Orleans' music culture is like none other in the free world. From the jazz to the bounce music, I love it all. I was in Houston this past weekend, and we attended a house party thrown by some N.O. folks my cousin knew. I heard the bounce music emitting from their garage, and I snapped into dance mode INSTANTLY. As if it were some musical cocaine, I just HAD to be there to soak it up and get high off the experience. Then came the second line music. I dang near exploded. It just solidified the fact that the New Orleans had not died in the hearts of its residents (past or present).

So, in closing, Patti LaBelle, The O'Jays, Erick Sermon, Marvin Gaye, etc. had it right. Music is where it's at and will continue to be. Long live the music.
