Celebration

As I sit here at work on Ash Wednesday, I reflect on this past Mardi Gras. The camera was working overtime yesterday. Against what I planned, I ended up going out into the French Quarter twice, once during the day, once at night. Here are some pictures.

Me at the festivities

People enjoying the Zulu parade

An interesting sign put up (there was a lot of FEMA hating going on)

Little children aboard the S.S. FEMA

A woman wiping trash away from her sitting area, as if her area would magically become much cleaner

The beginning of the Rex parade

Video of the clashing between the start of Rex and the end of Zulu on the corner of Camp and Poydras

Mayor Willy Nagin in General Honore gear and Governor K&B at the courthouse on St. Charles.

Woman I dubbed the "Chocolate City Dancer". Decked out in brown and danced with a red umbrella, for some reason.

A gator-led band GETTING DOWN!! (they rocked!)

Cops conspiring on the plan to shut the party down at midnight (from what I heard, they shut it down a few minutes early this year)

Overall, it was a good day. A day of celebration, sunny and beautiful outside. Everyone came out, had a good time, no incidents of violence that I know of. Laissez les bon temp roulez!
