More Than I Can Stand

Dateline is at it again. This time, they are after scammers in two different shows, "To Catch An I.D. Thief" and "To Catch A Con Man". The first is just as the name implies: Dateline's Chris Hansen, the "Jack Bauer of journalism", goes after identity thieves who steal law-abiding citizen's banking information to rip them off at unbelievable levels. On the latter, Chris is back again to expose some of the people behind those African schemes, where they state that they need your help to free a whopping amount of money from a bank. Then, you get roped into being required to give the crooks various amounts of REAL money out of these victims. It's amazing how often REAL people fall for this scam, even after being warned repeatedly by various media outlets. As a community service, I will offer my analysis on why you should not believe these scammers (here we go, another list...):

  1. Why can't these scammers get into the account themselves?
  2. Out of all the people in the world, why are they choosing you, someone they don't know from Adam, to get THEIR money out?
  3. If in the initial e-mail, nothing is said about you needing to put up any money, wouldn't them switching up their story be suspicious?
  4. If they want you to help them so bad, wouldn't they come a bit harder than an e-mail (and how did they magically get your e-mail address anyway?!)
  5. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

just a short list of reasons, in addition to common sense, why you should not fall for this crap. Buyer beware.
