I Want You Back
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has ordered 20 new episodes of THE BOONDOCKS, the new hit series from creator Aaron McGruder, based on his award-winning comic strip of the same name.
The second season, to debut in winter 2006, will be produced by McGruder's production company, Rebel Base, in association with Sony Pictures Television (SPT). Ten episodes of the initial 15-episode order have already aired this season.
THE BOONDOCKS premiered on Nov. 6, 2005, to great media attention for its non-politically correct content and many favorable reviews. It ranked as the best series premiere in Adult Swim history, and has consistently ranked among the top programs on basic cable each week among young adult viewers. It was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
“Thank God for THE BOONDOCKS and Aaron McGruder,” said Mike Lazzo, Cartoon Network’svp, programming and production, responsible for Adult Swim.
“Adult Swim’s passion for this show has been evident from day one, and we’re thrilled to be on this journey together,” said Zack Van Amburg, co-president, programming & production for SPT. “Aaron has created a group of amazing characters that tell entertaining and thought provoking stories, and we are so grateful to have found the perfect home for them.”
Aaron McGruder is creator/exec producer while Reginald Hudlin is also an exec producer of The Boondocks.
SPT produces and distributes top-rated, award-winning programming in every genre, including series, movies and family entertainment for network and cable television; first-run syndicated series; off-network syndicated programs; and theatrical releases. SPT (www.sonypicturestelevision.com) is a Sony Pictures Entertainment company.
Adult Swim (AdultSwim.com), launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s network dedicated to edgy animated comedy and action series, both original and acquired, airing Saturday-Thursday from 11:00 pm-6:00 am. Adult Swim shares channel space with Cartoon Network, home to original, classic and acquired programming for children and families, and is seen in more than 88 million U.S. homes.
