BACK YOUR FILES UP!!!
This past weekend, I screwed up and did SOMETHING (to this day, I don't know what I did) to the 250GB hard drive that had ALL my music stored on it. Suddenly, my drive makes a grinding noise and won't spin up. I do research on it, and I discover that it's a "head crash", where the heads of the hard drive (the part that reads the information) makes contact with the platter of the hard drive (the plates where the information is stored). When a head crash occurs, it usually tears into the platters, scratching them and making data recovery next to impossible.
Of course, worst case scenario, I'm not TOTALLY lost. Most of my stuff from 2003 and before is ALL backed up amongst 300+ CD's and DVD's. For the newer stuff, though, it's a lost cause. For fun, I called up a data recovery specialist to see how much it would cost. This guy told me that they offered a 5-7 day service and a 2-day service. For the 5-7 day service, it would be between $900-$2700 to fix, whereas the 2-day service would be between $1200-$3900 to fix. He said it was based on the type of files, operating system, and size of the drive. I had to hold back from saying "screw you", so I let him finish, and hung up.
Yesterday marked the beginning of my music rebuilding effort. My motto: Bring That Beat Back. I am working with a colleague of mine to get a graphic made, and as soon as I get it, you all will be alerted. In the meantime, I ask that you all continue to pray, as I may sporadically try the hard drive again (who knows, I may get lucky) in the coming weeks. FYI, I still have my original works (beats and albums), so thankfully, I still have what I did in a recreatable medium. Thanks, and remember this tip:
