Mellow Mood

"I'm representin' for the seat where Rosa Parks sat, where Malcolm X was shot, where Martin Luther was popped..."

-Jay-Z

Of course, I couldn't be in Memphis without paying a visit to the notorious Lorraine Motel. Here, I was able to get a picture of the location that lives in infamy:

The corner railing where the wreath is marks the spot where King fell. They have since removed the cement block that King's blood spilled on and replaced it with a clean one (too morbid, I guess). The whole motel has been gutted out and turned into the Civil Rights Museum, a wonderful museum I urge all to visit.

Right across the street is where the fatal shot took place:

This former hotel/firehouse was turned into the second part of the museum. In that part of the museum lies all the James Earl Ray artifacts, like the rifle, his passports, MLK's autopsy report, and even the bullet the doctors pulled from his body. The fatal shot came from that small window on the far right side of the darker red brick building. At that spot, the museum has reconstructed J.E.R.'s hotel room, even the skwered positioning of the dresser and bed. An INCREDIBLE museum. Again, anybody who hasn't been, I advise you do. I wanted to take pictures inside, but they didn't allow cameras. Dope experience.
